Royal recognition for Karen at St Tudy Community Shop

Karen Roberts has been awarded a British Empire Medal from the Queen for her services to the community in St Tudy.

Karen Roberts is the manager of the St Tudy community shop and Post Office in Cornwall, our South West region.

St Tudy Community Shop is run by a group of volunteers with Karen Roberts in charge as manager.

She said: "When I received the email I thought it was a scam. I've been getting quite a few scam emails recently.

"I was absolutely thrilled, chuffed and humbled. I felt like I didn't deserve it.

"I thought I'm just trying to be a nice person in the community looking out for people and the fact someone has nominated me is quite humbling.

"I couldn't believe it, I felt elevated.

"I thought this is great for the team. It's been a tough year, we try to look after the vulnerable people in our community."

Last June, The St Tudy Community Shop and Post Office also received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.
